Happy Birthday to - YOU!

Last year, after realizing how extremely blessed I am, I told my husband that I didn't want to receive birthday presents anymore. Instead, I'd like gift givers to donate to a charity of their choosing. Or, if pressed, to Read for Literacy, a charity of my choosing.

This plan has some flaws. In some ways, it's pretentious. Here I am assuming I'm going to get birthday presents. In some ways, it's bossy and rude - I don't want your present; give it to someone else. But, my heart was in the right place.

In lieu of an all-out boycott of birthday presents, I've decided to steal a page out of Wendy's book and give YOU something for my birthday. Yep, a Birthday Giveaway!

Here's how it works, by next Tuesday (April 10, my birthday), leave me a comment (here or on Facebook, wherever you are reading) and tell me what the best birthday gift you've ever received was. I will draw a winner at random, who will win a copy of one of my favorite books ever - Ella Minnow Pea by Mark Dunn. I might even autograph it.

For the record, one of my favorite birthday gifts ever was a dictionary. I am such a dork.

P.S. If you've already read or own Ella Minnow Pea, I will send you one of my other favorite books ever, TBD.

Update: The winner of my Birthday Giveaway was ... Kim! I hope you enjoy Ella Minnow Pea as much as I did! Thanks to all for entering, both here and on Facebook!

My best birthday gift happens to be my gift from my birthday this year! I got a Pandora bracelet from my husband. I don't typically ask for jewelry and I don't really even wear nice jewelry apart from my wedding ring and band. But I have wanted a Pandora bracelet for a few years. I mentioned it in passing to him awhile ago and he completely surprised me with it on my birthday. I love surprises! It was a happy shock!

Is it cliche to say my daughter? She was born 13 days before my birthday, but we didn't get to bring her home until she was 11 days old. So, that Saturday, 2 days before my bday, was one of the best days of my life.

I also got a pretty sweet 10 speed one year :)

Don't tell Chico (he got me a Nook for my birthday this year!), but once when I was a kid my dad and brother made a snowman for me before I woke up in the morning. I always thought that was pretty neat.

I remember hearing a review of this book on the radio a while ago, I'm definitely going to have to read it now! Developed a slight obsession with words lately, having decided I want to study English literature and linguistics at university, I think a dictionary would be an awesome present, :) Please check out my blog if you get a mo, I'm still pretty new to the blog world...
