Last year, after realizing how extremely blessed I am, I told my husband that I didn't want to receive birthday presents anymore. Instead, I'd like gift givers to donate to a charity of their choosing. Or, if pressed, to Read for Literacy, a charity of my choosing.
This plan has some flaws. In some ways, it's pretentious. Here I am assuming I'm going to get birthday presents. In some ways, it's bossy and rude - I don't want your present; give it to someone else. But, my heart was in the right place.
In lieu of an all-out boycott of birthday presents, I've decided to steal a page out of Wendy's book and give YOU something for my birthday. Yep, a Birthday Giveaway!
Here's how it works, by next Tuesday (April 10, my birthday), leave me a comment (here or on Facebook, wherever you are reading) and tell me what the best birthday gift you've ever received was. I will draw a winner at random, who will win a copy of one of my favorite books ever - Ella Minnow Pea by Mark Dunn. I might even autograph it.
For the record, one of my favorite birthday gifts ever was a dictionary. I am such a dork.
P.S. If you've already read or own Ella Minnow Pea, I will send you one of my other favorite books ever, TBD.
Update: The winner of my Birthday Giveaway was ... Kim! I hope you enjoy Ella Minnow Pea as much as I did! Thanks to all for entering, both here and on Facebook!
