Clack, Clack, NO!

This just in - there are only 500 new manual typewriters left in the world. The last company to make these icons stopped production in 2009 (where have I been?) and are almost out.

This is a huge deal for me. I need one, stat.

Many of you know that I'm a writer. For real. My degree is in journalism, but after several years as a reporter, I switched to writing marketing and communications copy (as well as speeches, etc.). So, I get paid to write. That makes me a writer.

I think I chose this profession because of the manual typewriter my parents had tucked under the desk in our living room when I was growing up. Every chance I got, I'd pull that really, really, really heavy case out and clack away. That sound is why I do what I do. I love that sound.

It never crossed my mind that manual typewriters would someday go the way of dinosaurs, but it looks like the end is near. So, I ask you, my dear friends, to keep an eye out for a manual typewriter for me. Preferably one that comes in a case (because that's the kind I had growing up). If you see one at a garage sale, text me, call me, or buy it for me. I'd be much obliged.

We have two! But Mike won't give them up, sorry! We found both at antique sales. Will look for one for you.
