Fond Memories

Mary Travers, of Peter, Paul and Mary, died Wednesday. I have a very happy memory of playing Atari (specifically, Breakout) and singing 'Puff, the Magic Dragon' with my mom when I was very young.

I also really liked the use of 'Leaving on a Jet Plane' in Armageddon.

And, oddly enough, I know all of the words to 'If I Had a Hammer'.

I was TOTALLY going to blog about this today. I didn't realize how many of their songs I actually knew.

R.I.P. Mary Travers.

I can relate to fond memories from childhood that are stirred by oldies tunes. I love folk music and I am certain I would have fit right in during the 60's. My fond memory of Mary Travers is from after I graduated high school. In the early-mid 1990's Peter, Paul (a DU frat bro of mine) & Mary played BGSU for parents weekend. The show sold out rather quickly I believe, but the University held a small number of tickets to sell on the day of the show (for slackers like me who didn't plan in advance) we wound up in the SECOND ROW on the floor of Anderson Arena!!! It was an amazing show, all 3 of them were outstanding and it was really a great experience to share with my folks! It was as close to the "hippie heydays" as I'll ever get, and for that I am grateful to Peter, Paul & Mary.

This makes me sad. I shall be listening to my PP&M greatest hits today.

Lila must know who they are.

Sad.

I am retarded! I apologize. Somehow you were off my blog roll...I don't know how!
Anyway, Puff the Magic Dragon was one of my favorite songs! It wasn't until I saw Meet the Parents that I learned what the song was about. Yeah I know...I said I was retarded!
