One Flu Shot Coming Up

I hate needles. Blame it on a bad IV experience when I was 12 or plain common sense, I go out of my way to avoid them. So why, do you ask, do I have two tattoos? That's a story for another day. Today's story is about voluntarily getting a flu shot.

I've never gotten a flu shot - or the flu for that matter - before, but my doctor says I should since I'm with child, so I am.

What about you? Are you getting a flu shot?

Since I have a toddler now and can not handle the idea of her barfing profusely, I think we're going to go get one. I've never had one before and am a little freaked out about letting Athena have one, but I've been told that it's a myth that they make you sick. I dunno...

I have never had one. I asked my doctor about it one time and she told me I didn't need it if I was getting plenty of rest, eating well, etc.... Isn't the flu a virus? Does it matter if you are healthy? I didn't really like her answer.

I think it is a good idea.

Nah. They're pretty pointless if you ask me. Typically, the vaccine only protects you from certain strains of the flue virus, while there are thousands out there and they mutate practically daily, so you're really not protecting yourself from much. I also believe that we NEED to get sick. We NEED to let our own immune system work a little bit.

i never thought much about getting them either...but influenza is rather serious...people die from it every year - and really, that's enough to make me want a flu shot. and, w/ 2 kids in daycare and my own tendency to get bronchitis...i am a big advocate of getting the flu shot every year. healthy or not, anyone can get influenza.

i agree with sarah. I don't get them either for that reason...seems pointless. Maybe when I have a child or I am much much much older I will change my opinion on flu shots, but until them I just don't get them.

Both M. and D. got the nasal spray instead of a shot. Same dose, just minus the needle. Probably too late for that advice though :)

I have to get the flu shot, working in a hospital. I usually get the nasal mist, but you can't get that when you're pregnant. So we've all gotten the flu shot in my family. And we've all gotten sick since then!
