For as long as I can remember, I've been blessed with poor eyesight. I'm not sure if it was because it was the 80s or if my mom had terrible taste or if pink really was my favorite color, but back in the day my glasses were God-awful. They were pink and plastic and thick and bulky and, well, ugly. All 15 pairs.
Yep. Because they were so ugly (or because I was 8), I hated my glasses. So I'd break them. I'm not sure what I thought that would accomplish since I really did need them to see. I one time 'accidentally' sat on them on the first leg of a vacation. (I don't think we were even out of the state yet.) Looking back, the only result was blurry visual memories of that trip.
But a few years ago (6 or 7 to be exact), I took advantage of my vision insurance and bought a pair of glasses - to be worn only at home or during emergencies. Even with that fancy-dancy insurance, I spent around $600 out of pocket. (Thanks to really bad eyesight, I have to get special lenses and am limited on the frames that can hold my lenses.)
Anyway, long story short, I am going to the eye doctor today and am excited about picking out new glasses. You know, ones I can see out of and that don't slip off my ears. It's not going to be cheap, but if I keep them for another 6 or 7 years, I can get my money's worth!
