Is it August Yet? Is it August Yet?

I cannot friggin' wait for the Olympics. Seriously. I get a little goofy when it comes to the games. As in, I can't get enough. B. doesn't know this yet, but I'm fully prepared to take advantage of any PPV options DIRECTV has come August.

My fascination stems from childhood. I don't know if it was a big deal to everyone back then or just my family, but watching the Olympics took precedence over just about everything. For two weeks, I was glued to the TV. When the games ended, I'm pretty sure there were tears involved. (Back then, the concept of time was a strange thing. Four years seemed forever away.)

So, if you need me this year between August 8 and August 24, you know where I'll be. Even the most minor sports (table tennis, trampolining) will not go unwatched this year, although I did learn a valuable lesson in 2004 - don't watch at work. See, I get emotional at things like this (sporting events, concerts) and ended up crying at my desk. Luckily, I had an office with a door, but still, my face was puffy afterward.

Anyway, how do you feel about the Olympics? Will you be watching? Do you prefer summer or winter games? What is your favorite sport? Is it just me or do the Olympics make you feel more patriotic than usual?

i was like that with the winter olympics as a kid -- i used to be a figure skater and was obsessed with watching the figure skating.

i still get excited about the olympics....but don't normally have enough time to watch them.

however, i plan on watching the gymnastics, swimming and diving this summer -- if i can remember!

I'm right with you! I LOVE the olympics...all of them, every minute of them, every sport, summer and winter...it doesn't matter.

When they began staggering the games, it was one of the best days ever. Now I don't have to wait 4 years!

This post could have very well been written by me. I agree with everything you said.

I've shed tears over the Olympics too. How could you not? They've trained their whole lives for this moment. Their families gave up food and nice clothes and had to live with dirt floors just so the athletes could throw that javelin just a little bit further.

It's heartwarming. I can't wait.

I'm all for the PPV from Directv. I will have to clear off the DVR so that we can record what we are not around for.

I'm glad I'm not the only one who loves the Olympics. I'm glad I'm not the only one who cries during the Olympics. I'm glad B. is cool with getting PPV. I'm also glad, like Dr. Turtle, that they stagger the games! Woo-hoo!

And now that I know about the dirt floors, I'm even more of a fan!!
