Listen Up, Hallmark

Normally, I love card shopping. I could spend hours reading cards, searching for the perfect one. Be warned, you probably don't ever want to go card shopping with me.

That said, shopping for sympathy cards stinks. I can never find a good sympathy card. (That might even be an oxymoron.)

I did find one once that was pretty, not too religious and didn't say anything like 'time heals all wounds'. At the time, I thought about buying a few just to have on hand, but that seemed a little morbid. But now here I am, in need of two sympathy cards and nothing seems acceptable.

I always, always go for the funny ones. (Except for the Sympathy cards). You're right - those are awkward.

I don't know why sympathy cards are so sad. If I was in grief or what have you, I would want and need laughter in my life to make it through, not some depressing cards to help me remember that whatever is going on sucks.

That's good to hear. Hopefully you won't be in need of one any time soon, but I will be sure to send one.

I prefer the ones that just say something like:

"I am so, so sorry."

Exactly what you want to say, you know?
