Caught - and Called Out

I don't know about you, but I find it very hard to work on the afternoon before a 3-day weekend. Such was the case last Thursday. So, like the slacker I am, I avoided some phone calls. (I love caller ID.) They were from the same person and I knew what she wanted. It wasn't important. There was no reason it couldn't wait until Monday. Then, without thinking, I opened an e-mail from her. Two seconds later, she called again. While I was checking that voicemail, she e-mailed. Both messages were the same: "I know you're there, I just got a read receipt." Crap. She totally caught me - and called me out on avoiding her.

I hate read receipts. I think they are for cheaters. (In the process of writing this e-mail, though, I did mention that I love caller ID, which kinda makes me a cheater, too, huh?)

You could have been checking your email from another location, and not by your phone

I totally want caller ID. I have been caught in many a stupid conversations with people I do.not.want.to.talk.to. I have a "DND" button on my phone - which is do not disturb - everything goes straight to voice mail. But then I miss important calls too and the secretary hates it because she can't reach me either. Drats.

If it wasn't important and could wait for Monday, why was the woman so frantic? She probably wanted to get everything done before a long weekend so should wouldn't have to worry about it on Monday. Why do people have to care so much?!
