If You Need Me ...

... I'll be in Spitsbergen.

National Geographic (which is going by Nat Geo nowadays, how cool) recently released its Top Destinations for 2008.

I have to admit, I never considered Senegal for my annual vacay, but I might now.
  • If you're looking for mountains, try Columbia. Attractions include vibrant colonial cities and whitewashed mountain villages.
  • If you're looking for water, try Albania. Attractions include unspoiled white-sand beaches and a slew of unique archaeological sites.
  • If you're looking for forests, try Senegal. Attractions include mangrove and baobab forests, beach-flecked coastlines and isolated hamlets.
  • If you're looking for snow, try Spitsbergen, Norway. Attractions include a panoply of calving glaciers (whatever they are), rich wildlife and yawning fjords (fjords, yeah).
  • If you're looking for deserts, try Mongolia. Attractions include vacant stretches of desert, steppe and high mountains.
  • If you're looking for a road trip, try India. Attractions include Bengal tigers.
Do any of these destinations trip your trigger?

Well, thank God for your travels, because otherwise, I would not have known that a place called Spitsbergen exists. (I'm still learning the US capitals-haha)

It looks very Lord of the Rings-y. I'll come with.

To be honest, I've never heard of several of these places. Mongolia, yes. They've got great beef from what I've heard. But Spitsenbergenese, umm... no. Never heard of it.
