It's a Wonderful Life

Last week, my new friend K. decided that every year around the time of her wedding anniversary, she was going to share the story of her engagement with someone. I love this idea for several reasons: 1. It's important to relive special moments. 2. It's fun to share happy stories. And, 3. It's a tradition and I'm a sucker for tradition.

Last night, I did one of my favorite holiday traditions - I watched 'It's a Wonderful Life.' Every year, without fail, this movie reminds me of all that is good in the world. Sure, there are rocky parts and sure, some people aren't good, but in the end, everything works out.

That's a good lesson to be reminded of at this time of year when it seems the most important things on most people's minds are getting the closest parking spot and the last toy du jour at the mall - no matter who they cut off or whose holiday cheer they've stolen.

Today I'm going to follow another favorite tradition and avoid the mall, the long lines and the crazy drivers. Instead I'm going to curl up with a good book, hot chocolate, B. and D. and enjoy the holiday season. I might even watch 'It's a Wonderful Life' again since I may have fallen asleep last night before Clarence got his wings.

P.S. Happy Anniversary, K.! December weddings are the best!
